Kanu's Nairobi Senate Aspirant John Ochoti Targets to Boost Youth and Women Groups Businesses
The Nairobi Senate aspirant John Ochoti is partnering with groups to boost their businesses or equip them with equipment and facilities in income generating projects.
Ochoti who is contesting on a Kanu ticket met with wananchi during his campaigns and urged them to come together and form groups and then look for him to empower them with incoming generating initiatives.
“I cannot empower an individual but I’d rather work with organized groups because the impact will be big given that many will benefit and nobody will be left out,” he said.
Ochoti advised Nairobians as he took his campaigns to Embakasi sub county in the areas of Nyayo estate’s Gate D, Embakasi Village and Embakasi Village market.
The candidate made a meet the people tour in a door to door campaign where met the residents and the business community which included Mama Mbogas, boda boda riders, shopkeepers, water vendors, clothes sellers, mobile phones and accessories sellers and sellers in stalls selling various products.
Ochoti said he knew that there’s a very big problem accessing startup capital to start a business and lack of affordable credit or loans to boost businesses and that’s why he has decided to chip in to promote Nairobians do business.
“There is a very big problem of unemployment and promoting traders and various businesses will create more employment opportunities which will make Nairobi’s economy to grow and reduce the levels of poverty and crime,” he said.
Ochoti gave an example of a case where a women’s group in Nairobi which was targeting a washing machine worth Ksh 135,000 raised about Ksh35,000 and then went to him for help to meet the deficit of Ksh100,000 and was able to assist them purchase the machine for their business.
He urged Nairobians to pool their resources together when targeting to purchase a machine or equipment for their business or start a certain and then approach him to offset the deficit.
Ochoti said once elected to the Senate he will push for bills that will enable facilitate funds for upcoming business through provision of affordable credit or loans, paying of modest charges for trade licenses and having some small businesses exempted from paying for the licenses.
