Football Executive Alila Endorses Igathe for Nairobi Governor
Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) National Executive Committee (NEC) member Tom Alila has endorsed the candidature of Polycarp Igathe for the Nairobi Gubernatorial seat.
The Former Nyanza FKF NEC member who contested for Nairobi NEC member in the last FKF elections has been on the campaign trail with a continued campaign for Polycarp Igathe in Nairobi.
Alila, who is an proven grassroots mass mobiliser, has asked the Nairobi sport fraternity to support Igathe since he is the best poised to bring the desired development to the sports sector which has for years been treated with little seriousness by successive governments.
“Nairobi has over three thousand active football clubs from grassroots to the elite level with each club having an average of 30 players; this then means football teams in Nairobi have the potential to become a massive voting bloc numbering over a hundred thousand voters,” Alila said.
“All this clubs have fans and supporters who follow their teams which can also be transformed into votes if this clubs persuade their fans to vote for a particular candidate who they believe will stand with them and support the beautiful game,” he added.
Alila said that sports persons need standard facilities to be established for them to have an enabling environment to horn their skills.
“Every estate in Nairobi needs a standard playing field for football and other sports for our kids and those playing grassroots football.
Sadly, Nairobi has only one stadium owned by the County which for year now, it has not been ready to host any football match,” Alila lamented.
“I was the one who came up with the idea of laying the artificial turf at City Stadium more than twenty years ago. None of the previous Governor's has bothered to renovate the historic City stadium aka Tok Ko Mwanda stadium,” Alila narrated.
“Dandora stadium is yet to be completed and is marred with corruption allegations. I believe Igathe will look at building a few standard stadiums and estate playing field for football, volleyball, basketball courts among other sports,” He said while rallying sports people to vote for Igathe.
