Sakaja Runs to Uganda Get a Degree to Beat Aspirants Clearance Deadline
A week after being disowned by the University of Nairobi (UoN), Senator Johnson Sakaja as sought for a degree from Uganda to get clearance to contest for the city’s gubernatorial race.
Sakaja was scheduled to present his nomination papers to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) on Sunday, June 5th, 2022, starting at 8am and ending at 9pam but never showed up, till Monday after picking the degree certificate to present to the Nairobi County Returning Officer for clearance to contest.
“How comes Sakaja didn’t submit his nomination papers yesterday, Sunday, June 5th, 2022. Did he write to you seeking for an extension,” a concerned Nairobian Njihia Kelvin questioned the IEBC.
Sakaja who did not respond to the allegations that he did not have a university degree headed to the IEBC to present a degree from St Lawrence in Uganda.
Last week, the University of Nairobi (UoN) said that Sakaja never graduated from the institution.
In a letter to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), by the UoN Deputy Vice Chancellor in charge of Academic Affairs Prof Julius Ogeng’o said that there is no record in the institution to show that Sakaja graduated from the university.
In the letter copied to the UoN Vice Chancellor, Academic Registrar and the Faculty of Science and Technology Dean, said that Sakaja undertook a course in Actuarial Science for two years and never completed his studies.
Kenyans on social media questioned why Sakaja who brags about graduating from UoN with a degree in Actuarial Science has made a sudden about-turn to instead produce credentials from St Lawrence University in Uganda.
“Why are you presenting papers from Uganda’s St Lawrence University, yet you have been saying that you graduated from UoN? BIG BROTHER is watching!!,” posed Kenyans on social media.
Political activist Billy Arocho joked at the Sakaja issue saying:”I thought Hon Sudi and I were the only ones without this elusive document called University degree. Kumbe tuko wengi hivi.”
Nairobians called on the Commission of University Education (CUE) to scrutinize and liaise with the Ministry of Education in Uganda over the degree before Sakaja is cleared to contest.
