The Kenya National Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KNNCI) president who was aspiring to the Nairobi Governor put aside his disappointment of being denied the Jubilee Party to campaign for the Azimio La Umoja alliance candidates in the city.

Ngatia campaigned for the Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga and Azimio’s candidates including the Nairobi Governorship aspirant Polycarp Igathe and other candidates eyeing various political seats.
This is the first time for Ngatia to emerge in public after failing to secure the Jubilee Party ticket.

The businessman emerged from political obscurity to for the Azimio La Umoja during Raila’s Azimio’s road show in Nairobi on May 31st, 2022 to campaign for Igathe and the Azimio coalition’s candidates seeking for various seats in Nairobi.

The Azimio La Umoja alliance is a coalition involving the ruling Jubilee Party and the opposition Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and other parties behind its presidential candidate Raila Odinga.

Ngatia who was the front runner in the Nairobi Governor’s Jubilee Party nominations was among the Jubilee party’s aspirants who were elbowed out of the race in favour of the then Equity Bank Group Chief Commercial Officer (COO) in a nomination conducted through consensus by Jubilee’s official’s.
Ngatia advocated for a six piece suit style of voting in of Azimio La Umoja candidates for the various seats including, presidential, Governor, Senator, Women’s representative, Member of Parliament and Member of County Assembly (MCA) seats.

“Raila needs troops of elected leaders drawn from the Azimio for various political posts to form an army of soldiers who will be there to defend and fight for Baba when he leads Kenya as president,” he said.

Ngatia appealed to his supporters to vote for Igathe as the Nairobi Governor saying he has no hard feelings after failing to capture the Jubilee/Azimio ticket as he was firmly behind Raila and Azimio La Umoja and will not defect to any other party or political formation.

“Am calling upon my supporters not to be disappointed by my absence from the ballot and to support and elect Raila and Igathe together with other candidates in Azimio,” he said.
