SportPesa Boss Ronald Karauri Cleared for Kasarani Race As an Independent
SportPesa Chief Executive Officer Captain Ronald Karauri’s dreams of following in the footsteps of his father as a Member of Parliament (MP) inched closer after being cleared by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) to contest for the Kasarani parliamentary seat.
Karauri is contesting as an Independent for the seat after being elbowed out by the ruling Jubilee Party after it settled for the incumbent legislature Mercy Gakuya.
"It is about time that Kasarani is well represented by someone like me who will push for their basic rights and to enjoy basic services such as quality education, food and water," he said.
After being cleared, Karauri declared his support for the Azimio La Umoja-One Kenya Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga.
“Raila is the reason Kenyans enjoy a lot of rights and freedoms today,” he said as declared his support for the former Prime Minister.
Ronald Karauri is son to former Tigania East MP Mathew Adams Karauri. Ronald’s father a former Kenya Football Federation (KFF) chairman served as MP between 1997-2002 before losing the seat to Agriculture minister Peter Munya.
“In the course of the work that we have been doing in the community, both in sports and maternal health, many people have approached me to represent them so that we can make change together.
Today, I declare that I will be in the race as their next MP in Kasarani,” said the SportPesa boss.
