Was Sports Money from Makadara CDF kitty Squandered?

A section of residents in Makadara constituency have called for scrutiny in moneys allocated for the development of sports from the Makadara constituency CDF kitty.

The irate residents have now asked the sleuths from the DCI to widen their scope and also investigate money allocated for sports in Makadara the last five years alleging misappropriation.

This comes following reports that the detectives have put a spotlight on the loss of CDF money meant for bursaries in Makadara in the last five years.

“For the last five years, football teams in Makadara have endured suffering since no sports equipment or even participation fees has been paid to their respective federations to enable them continue to playing matches, this even with a budgetary allocation for sports in the area CDF,” a football official who did not want to be mentioned decried.
“It is only in one instance in the last five years that the CDF committee has made public the usage of the sports money where they settled league fees for football teams participating in various leagues. Even then, the money allocated was only slightly above 500,000 shillings out of an allocation of 12 million annually,” he continued.

According to sports officials and players in the area, for five years, no sports kits for any sports team have been procured and no sports field has been renovated or constructed in Makadara raising eye brows over how the close to 60million shillings allocated for sports was used in the five years of current administration.

“No sports pitch has been renovated or build in the last five years. Our last member of parliament Benson Mutura was able to build Jericho Camp Toyoyo astro turf stadium in Jericho and a Standard handball Court in Kaloleni where Black Mamba handball team hosts their home matches. What has the current MP done? We want even as the DCI investigate misappropriation of bursary money, they also look into the sports fund because this too has a lot of grey areas,” they said.
