Nairobi Minority Leader Cleared to Contest for Third Term as Makongeni MCA
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has cleared the way for the Nairobi County Assembly Minority Whip Peter Imwatok to seek for a third term as the Makongeni ward Member of County Assembly (MCA).
He will be vying for the third time under Azimio through his party the Orange Democratic Movement ODM Party.
"I have consulted with the top party leadership and got it's blessing to vie for the current position as an MCA instead of going for a bigger seat. Am satisfied with serving Makongeni as their leader,” said Imwatok.
“Thank you Makongeni ward for giving the opportunity to serve and not only serve the people of Makongeni but the entire Nairobi and am grateful,” said Imwatok at the Jericho social hall after being cleared to contest for his third term on Wednesday, June 01, 2022.
During his second stint at City Hall, Imwatok can pride through his role and leadership as the Minority Whip, he was able to whip MCAs to support the legislation that brought the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
“Major achievements of bringing NMS is that I have three roads have been done in Makongeni, six bore-holes sunk, a functional stadium at Canon Apollo and the construction of another one at Makongeni Sports ground. I am grateful that my efforts were not in vain,” he said.
During his tenure, he has been able to unite the people of Kaloleni, Makongeni and Mbotela wards which were merged to form the larger Makongeni ward through equitable distribution of resooreces without favouritism.
Imwatok who was appointed as the chairman of ODM nominees aspiring for elective seats in Nairobi said he will ensure that ODM candidates capture all the elective posts and the presidential votes in the city.
“You will see me in everywhere as I want to ensure that ODM takes all the seats from the ward level, constituency and the other elective posts with Nairobi delivering votes to the ODM leader and Azimio La Umoja presidential candidate Raila Odinga,” he said.
The Minority said as Azimio they are ahead of the pack and just pushing to 65% adding that in the next six days they will have achieved that percentage by mobilizing voters at the grassroots.
Imwatok who represents Makongeni ward which is in Makadara constituency admitted that there is a problem in the constituency which is being led by his predecessor George Aladwa.
“There is a problem in Makadara which needs to be corrected. We need to speak the truth in the face of the people. Makadara has a big challenge of leadership which needs to be sorted from bottom to up.
He concluded:”Raila will be the next president of Kenya and needs to have his troops stationed in City Hall to keep accountability in check ensure that the way they fought for rightful leadership in Nairobi, and we must instill the same under the leadership of Azimio in the steering wheel.”
