Head of Firearms Criminal Enterprise on The Run, Being Pursued by DCI

A Nairobi businessman and communication consultant has asked the inspector general of police and the Director of Criminal Investigation, Mr. Mohamed Ibrahim Amin to investigate a Mr. Antony Kariuki. In a statement, Evans Wafula alleges that he lost Kshs. 460,000 to Mr. Antony Kariuki, in what he believed is a syndicate organized and run by Mr. Antony Kariuki. 

The syndicate involves senior officers from the firearms licensing bureau and a ring of criminal enterprise that include Mr. Antony Kariuki.

According to Mr. Wafula, he has reported the matter to Kilimani Police Station and at Kyumbi Police station, and despite making formal complaints, the arrest and apprehension of Mr. Antony Kariuki and his accomplice have not been instituted.

In June 2022, police arrested a businessman who was allegedly found in possession of a cache of weapons, including 22 high-calibre firearms and 565 rounds of ammunition.

Ken Wycliff Okello Lugwili was arrested and charged, according to Mr. Wafula, Mr. Antony Kariuki is a 
known accomplice of Mr. Lugwili is now deceased.

The statement further elaborates how Mr. Wafula met Mr. Antony, through a mutual friend and upon meeting Mr. Antony, he introduced himself as an officer working with the firearms licensing bureau.
In a statement recorded at Kyumbi police station that the Daily Nation has seen, Wafula gives an account of how Mr. Antony went ahead and provided him with information on the requirements of applying for a civilian firearms license and later Mr. Wafula provided everything, including paying a cash amount as part of the statutory application fee.

On diverse dates, Mr. Wafula paid a total of KSh 460,000 to Mr. Antony Kariuki, and despite paying the sum, nothing was accorded to him. 

Mr. Wafula is appealing to the Director of Criminal Investigation to investigate, arrest, and prosecute Mr. Antony Kariuki for engaging in acts of criminality that has caused him to lose money.

Investigation by Directorate of Criminal Investigation both at Kilimani and at Kyumbi police stations are ongoing and have bore no fruits  the suspect remains at large despite numerous attempts to apprehend him.
